The best candidates are healthy and have realistic expectations. Common medical conditions that are well treated generally will not prevent you from having surgery and we will discuss health issues at your consultation. Through discussion and examination, we will work to align your expectations with realistic goals. When expectations and results match, patients are happy!

How do I select a plastic surgeon?

First, look for Credentials and Education. Second, interview the surgeon. Third, if possible, get recommendations from physicians and friends who’ve had surgery with the prospective surgeon.

Credentials – look for certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery and membership in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Be careful of “bogus boards” – boards that are not certified by the American Board of Medical Specialists.

• How many of this procedure have you performed?
• Please show me photographs of patients you’ve operated on for this procedure.

Listen:

• Does the doctor provide a comprehensive description of the procedure, the recovery, and the potential risks and complications?
• Does the doctor listen to your questions and concerns?
• Does the doctor discuss other medical issues you may have – Is he concerned about you as a whole person?
• Does his office seem organized and focused?

How much does plastic surgery cost?

Plastic surgery fees vary depending on the procedure (not every facelift is the same!) and the skills and experience of the surgeon. Plastic surgery fees are surprisingly affordable, but not inexpensive. Be certain to receive a comprehensive quotation prior to making any decision.

Dr. Barnett will work with you to reach or exceed your expectations, but not if it compromises safety or looking natural.

Is plastic surgery safe?

Plastic surgery, when performed by an experienced surgeon in a professional environment, is very safe. That said, it is important that you work with someone who has the experience to identify, prevent, and if necessary, treat issues that arise. Hospitals and fully accredited Ambulatory Surgery Centers are required by law to maintain the highest standards, to have equipment and personnel redundancy, to annually review their staff and facility, and constantly provide peer oversight. Dr. Barnett only works in facilities accredited by the Joint Commission (Hospitals) and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (Ambulatory Surgery Centers), and only works with board-certified physician anesthesiologists (not nurse anesthetists). For safety reasons, Dr. Barnett has chosen not to work in an office operatory.

Will people notice that I’ve had plastic surgery?

Great plastic surgery whispers, it doesn’t shout. While people who know you will often notice a turkey neck that is replaced with an elegant neck and jawline, or small breasts and full hips that are replaced by a stunning décolletage and figure, the results should pass as natural to those you meet for the first time.
