Non-Surgical Wrinkle Reduction with Fillers
Published on October 27, 2019 by Andrew Barnett
More and more patients are coming into our office seeking out procedures that will allow them to achieve maximum results with minimal downtime. While a facelift with or without fat transfer is the gold standard procedure for wrinkle reduction and volume loss, there are a variety of non-surgical alternatives available. The two main tools are fillers (to replace lost volume) and muscle blockers (like Botox®, which reduce muscle activity that causes frown lines and dynamic wrinkles). In this blog, I’ll discuss the advantages of fillers to reduce or eliminate fine lines and wrinkles as well as replace facial volume loss.
#1: Near-Instant Improvement
Whether you’re preparing for a big event or simply want to achieve a younger-looking appearance, hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers can help. Injectables produce near-instant results directly after being placed. Although results can typically be seen immediately, I recommend having injectables done 1-2 weeks before any major social engagements to ensure an optimal outcome.
#2: Limited Downtime
Hyaluronic injectables are done in a simple, in-office visit. In many cases, your consultation and treatment can be scheduled into a single appointment. HA fillers don’t require any downtime allowing you to get back to your daily routine right away. Initial side effects are typically mild and short-lived but can include redness, minimal bruising, swelling, and tenderness.

#3: Semi Long-Lasting Results
The great thing about HA fillers is being able to achieve semi long-lasting results. Many men and women even opt for injectables prior to surgery to see what their end-results may look like. Although an optimal outcome is dependent on your goals and the application, hyaluronic gel fillers can last anywhere from 3-months for the thinnest fillers used for very fine lines, to 2+ years for the thickest fillers, used for volume replacement and augmentation of the facial foundation. During your initial consult, we’ll discuss all aspects of your procedure including the projected longevity.
#4: Minimal Risks
While no procedure is truly risk-free, HA fillers have a very high safety profile. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance found within the body. HA is known for its ability to plump and hydrate the skin from within. There are minimal risks involved with the procedure and no allergy test is needed. Hyaluronic gel treatments are a safe and effective method to maintain the results you’ve come to love.
Dr Barnett was extremely thorough in explaining what to expect and was extremely attentive through the healing process. His staff was very kind and also extremely supportive every step of the way. I felt confident from the beginning that I had made the best decision in choosing Dr Barnett, and I continue to feel the same as I near the end of my recovery.
