Facelift procedures are the gold standard when it comes to mid-to-lower facial rejuvenation. A facelift is ideal for patients that are bothered by facial volume loss, droopy fat pads, or excess skin. The procedure is highly customizable according to the patient’s individual concerns and goals. In fact, combination procedures aren’t at all uncommon.

As a board-certified surgeon, I’ve helped countless men and women achieve their desired contours through facial cosmetic surgery. For patients that have severe volume loss in the upper cheek area, I may suggest pairing a cheek augmentation with their facelift. This allows the patient to maximize their results with a single recovery period.

How Does Cheek Augmentation Work?

At the time of your initial consultation, we’ll discuss your various options when it comes to cheek augmentation – either with your own tissue or with implants. Cheek augmentation can be produced by moving your own fat and tissues from the lower cheek, by transferring fat from other areas of your body to your cheeks, or by using silicone formed check implants. Tissue rearrangement and fat transfer provide very natural, long lasting improvement and can be highly customized to your specific wants and needs, but the degree augmentation is limited. Where a large augmentation is desired, a silicone cheek implant may be a good idea. Cheek implants come in a large selection of shapes and sizes allowing you to plump your cheek area in a way that’s aesthetically pleasing to you. Adding fat transfer or cheek implants to your facelift surgery enhances the outcome of your overall procedure and doesn’t take much additional time.

What Results Can I Expect?

Results from your cheek augmentation procedure can be seen immediately. Some post-surgical swelling and bruising may mask the final outcome for 2-6 weeks. Although the contours of your new cheeks may continue to settle for up to a year or more, most patients are happy with the results in about 2-weeks. Tissue transfer and fat grafting is generally permanent once the final result is seen at 6-12 weeks. Additional fat grafting, 6-12 months after the initial procedure, can also be performed to augment the result. Results from cheek implants are generally permanent, and cheek implants can safely be removed and/or replaced whenever you’re ready for different contours.

Should I Add A Cheek Augmentation to My Facelift?

Ideally, you should be in otherwise good general health and have realistic expectations about what the procedures can do for you. During your initial consultation, I’ll speak with you about your individual concerns and goals. Afterward, I’ll go over all of your options in-depth so you can make an informed decision. Together, we’ll customize a treatment plan to help you effectively meet them with minimal downtime.
