How Long Does A Facelift Last?
Published on January 19, 2019 by Andrew Barnett

Facelift procedures can take 10-15 years off of your appearance. The procedure can produce life-changing results for the right candidate. Many patients opt to have facelift surgery for a dramatically more youthful appearance, while others prefer a subtle change. And always, always natural. As a board-certified surgeon, I’ve helped thousands of women and men achieve the results they want with the least invasive procedure possible.
Every patient, and every surgery, is a highly customized procedure and no two patients get exactly the same results from facial rejuvenation procedures. Some patients opt to pair their facelift with an upper and lower eyelid lifts, browlifts, fat transfer, chin implants, lip lifting or other procedures for even more dramatic results. Furthermore, there are many different types of facelift procedures. While one may focus on restoring mid-facial volume, another might be primarily used to combat aging on the lower face and neck.
How Long Will Your Surgery Last?
The longevity of your facelift surgery depends greatly on your overall health and lifestyle before, during, and after your procedure. The aging process is gradual and continuous, although we tend to age in cycles – typically people tend to look the same for 5 to 7 years, and then go through an accelerated aging cycle that occurs over 6 months. Then things stabilize again for another 5 to 7 years. So, again typically, patients notice a relatively sudden change at the 5 to 7 year mark, and then a second change 5 to 7 years later. Most patients find that they will go through two accelerated aging cycles (10 to 14 years) before considering additional surgery. The good news is, you’ll always look better than you would if you’d chosen not to have the surgery – if you had an identical twin, you did the surgery but your twin did not – 14 years later you might consider additional surgery but you’d still look better than your twin (who didn’t come to Dr. Barnett!!!).

What Can You Do?
As a facial rejuvenation specialist, I customize every procedure to ensure an optimal outcome for each patient. However, even with the best surgical skills, there are plenty of things you can do to prolong the outcome of your procedure. Smoking and excessive sun exposure are a huge no-no when it comes to getting the most out of your surgery.
Aside from minimizing sun exposure (yes, tanning beds too!), you can maintain the results of your facelift by keeping to a daily skincare routine. At the time of your in-person consultation, we’ll discuss how you can maximize your results with a simple at-home routine. Again, I cannot stress enough that sun protection is a must when it comes to increasing the longevity of your procedure.
During your initial facelift consultation, I’ll speak with you about your individual concerns and customize the facelift procedure that suits your needs. Once we’ve decided on a treatment that’s right for you, I’ll be able to give you an idea of projected results and longevity.
Great, great and great. Dr Barnett is an artist. I trust his work and judgement. He knows how to turn your clock back naturally. The absolute best
